Remarkable early 18th-century English oak coffer trunk. Heavy hand-hewn panels with deeply carved floral arches, original iron strap hinges, and rich dark patina acquired over centuries.
The carved panels give the front of this chest a strong rhythm and sense of depth. Iron fittings contrast with the colour and grain of the oak. Both the storage form and its decorative treatment contribute to its appeal as an interior piece.
